ZRTVU was founded in January 1979. ZRTVU has its branch schools scattered in 10 cities or prefectural seats and 61 counties and 7 teaching units set up by some provincial departments or organizations. ZRTVU mainly offers 'BA courses', two-year or three-year specialized college courses, besides, it also provides 'double basic college courses, continuing education and vocational education courses, and various non-degree courses. ZRTVU has established 85 specialties in 20 fields covering science and engineering, economic management and liberal arts etc. in1979/99.

The Zhejiang Radio & Television University (ZRTVU) is an open university, which offers distance education through the media of radio and TV programs, audio-visual aids, printed materials, CAI courseware.


ZRTVU was founded in January 1979. ZRTVU has its branch schools scattered in 10 cities or prefectural seats and 61 counties and 7 teaching units set up by some provincial departments or organizations. ZRTVU mainly offers 'BA courses', two-year or three-year specialized college courses, besides, it also provides 'double basic college courses, continuing education and vocational education courses, and various non-degree courses. The Zhejiang Radio & Television University main office is in Hangzhou, China.


The university conducts teaching activities in an open way by adopting a combined teaching and learning form of audio-visual series, self-teaching, correspondence and face-to-face tutorials. In 2002 it stated that "the university has set up campus computer network connected with the Internet. ZRTVU is beginning to carry out distance education on net." Today, the university has about 16,597 e-learning courses.

At present, the total number of staff is 4,344 across the province, of which 2,872 are full-time teachers.

Zhejiang Radio & Television University was awarded as "Excellent Adult University" by Zhejiang Educational Commission in 1997 and as one of the advanced open universities for academic work by CCRTVU in March 1999.
