The University of the West of Scotland (Scottish Gaelic: Oilthigh na h-Alba an Iar, UWS) supports online (distance) learning and traditional learning with technology.

The university is based in Scotland, UK, and was formed by a merger of the University of Paisley and Bell College, Hamilton in August 2007.

The university is known for its vocational undergraduate and postgraduate courses. It currently has over 19,000 students (including over 1300 international students), and approximately 1300 staff, spread across seven schools of learning.

Bachelor's and Master's distance learning courses are available in Health Studies, Management of eBusiness, and Nursing Studies. According to the school's distance learning web site, "Students use email, teleconferencing, bulleting boards and online classroom forums to interact with tutors and other students. All course and reference materials are available online, providing students with everything they need to complete their studies."

Courses are support by the use of Blackboard.

The university's main office is in Paisley, Scotland. Other campuses are located in Ayr, Dumfries and Hamilton.
