The Hanoi Open University (HOU)

Hanoi Open University (HOU) is an establishment of higher education training and research with different forms of training - distant and face-to-face - designedto meet the diversified learning needs of the society. Its mission is to increase the scientific and technical potential of Vietnam.

HOU was founded on November 3, 1993 under a decision by the Prime Minister of Vietnam. It operates within the system of state universities, under the direct control of the Ministry of Education and Training, and is entitled to all statutes of a public university.

HOU's Open Learning Programme offers training courses via internet, radio and television. Classes are asynchronous and do not lead to any degree.

In 2006, HOU enrolment totalled 10,000 students in face-to-face courses, and 20,000 students studying remotely.
