Kumiko Aoki, The Open University of Japan, Centre of ICT and Distance Education (CODE), Japan


Kumiko Aoki has lived in the United States for 17 years, obtaining her Master’s Degree in Communication at the University of Winsconsin and her Ph.D in Communication and Information Sciences from the University of Hawaii at Manoa (Hawaii).

Before joining the National Institute of Multimedia Education (NIME) in Japan as an Associate Professor, she was Assistant Professor at the Department of Information Technology, Rochester Institute of Technology for 3 years and at the College of Communication, Boston University for 5.5 years. Her research interests include quality assurance and benchmarking of e-learning, the use of ICT for intercultural collaborative learning, learning design, and pedagogy in distance education.
