The Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU) is an influential academic organization for distance education and open learning in Asian areas. For years both practitioners and researchers in the Asian area have made full of use of this forum to promote exchanges and forge good relationship, which has produced very positive impact on the development of distance education within the area.

The Secretary General says:

The vision of globalization is calling for substantial innovation to make our learning more flexible, more convenient and more relevant to the economic development. In the context of cross-culture background, we need to understand each other, to absorb constantly in all valuable references and to develop quality distance learning. We need to make joint efforts to create a better learning environment and ensure everyone of the right for life-long learning.

Annual conference

The 2008 AAOU Annual Conference will be hosted by Tianjin Radio & TV University, China.

The main theme for the XXII Conference has been set as “The New Development, New Trends and New Missions of Open and Distance Education in Asia and the World”. The venue will be staged at Tianjin Grand Hotel, Tianjin, China during 24-26 October, 2008.
