|}Welcome to the Virtual Education Wiki, devoted to virtual learning in education at all levels (schools, colleges and universities) including informal learning, open learning (OER) and distance learning. It is also known as the Open Education Wiki.

Welcome to the entry page of this wiki where you will find information about virtual schools, colleges and universities. The idea behind this wiki is to create an open and public space where researchers can share information about virtual developments in various different educational sectors. It is supported and maintained by a growing community of researchers and is aimed at stakeholders, researchers and practitioners who would like to have easy access to the latest information about how the virtual phenomenon is manifesting itself in schools, colleges and universities around the world.

The idea in 2008 behind the original wiki was to create an open and public space where researchers could share information about virtual developments in various different educational sectors. It was supported and maintained during 2009-2015 by a community of researchers from EU and beyond and was aimed at stakeholders, researchers and practitioners who wanted to have easy access to the latest information about how the virtual phenomenon is manifesting itself in schools, colleges and universities around the world. You will therefore find much of this legacy information in the wiki. The wiki is now being updated in all its aspects, focussing initially on OER initiatives, OER policies and virtual schools.

This wiki is currently maintained by the VISCED project on Virtual Schools and Colleges (2011 - 2012), which aims to make an inventory and to carry out a systematic review at international and national levels of innovative ICT-enhanced learning/teaching "Exemplar" initiatives and "e-mature" major secondary and post-secondary education providers for the 14-21 age group.

Its full title is "Virtual Schools for K-12 Education: Lessons Learned and Implications for Digital K-12 and Other Sectors of Education" (Guest Editors: Paul Bacsich, Sara de Freitas and Bieke Schreurs).

VISCED will enhance Re.ViCa’s earlier research work on this wiki on country reports and resources with research results relevant to virtual schools and exemplars.
The deadline for submissions is <big>now 1 October 2024</big>.

Old News
Originally set up in 2007 by the Re.ViCa project on Virtual Campuses in universities and colleges (2007- 2009), this wiki started out with providing an inventory and showing the results of a systematic review of Virtual Campus initiatives of the past decade within higher education throughout the world.

In 2009, Re.ViCa research pages on this wiki include over 300 categorised Programmes, Country reports, nine in-depth Institutional reports and a large number of related Resources (research projects, outputs, and publications).

The wiki is a work in progress. Many of the judgements that are made about institutions and projects are at this stage tentative and subject to further analysis by projects, often with the help of an International Advisory Committee - and may be found challenging by some readers. The Re.ViCa team conducted its research on Virtual Campuses along a broad range of parameters. Most information is validated by the numerous discussion sessions that the Re.ViCa team has organised with different stakeholder groups throughout the project. The same will be true of VISCED. Information on individuals is as far as possible collected from public sources and written in "curriculum vitae" fashion, focussing on their strengths and abilities and not on irrelevant personal information.

If any individual feels that information about them requires correction then it is within the spirit of the wiki approach for them to do that for their own entry.

Welcome to the Virtual Education Wiki, devoted to virtual learning in education at all levels (schools, colleges and universities) including informal learning, open learning (OER) and distance learning. It is also known as the Open Education Wiki.

As this is a wiki, you can edit it as part of the Virtual Education Wiki Community.  Prior to contributing, you may find it useful to view our help pages and note that anything you change may be amended or deleted by other wiki users.
