Karnataka is a state in the south-west of India. It borders Maharashtra to the north, Andhra Pradesh to the east, Tamil Nadu to the south-east, Kerala to the south-west, The Arabian Sea to the west, and Goa to the north-west.
The 2011 census records a population of 61.1 million over 30 districts. The state capital and largest city is Bangalore.
