The Charles University in Prague (Univerzita Karlova v Praze, CU) supports e-learning Charles University an accredited public university that was founded in 1348 and is one of the oldest universities in the world. The scope of Charles University can be characterized also by its income amount which is cca 5 billion Czech crowns per year. 41% of this amount comes from educational funding, 27% from competitive research grants, and 26% is its own income.


The institution’s main office is in Prague, Czech Republic. CU enrolls over 42,400 students and over 5,000 participants graduate from continuing education courses every year. For the 2008 Summer Semester they offered 3 e-learning courses within the Virtual Campus for A Sustainable Europe (VCSE), a partnership of European universities offering e-learning courses.

Its Student Information System (SIS) is at https://is.cuni.cz/eng/studium/index.php with help pages. CU’s Faculty of Medicine has an educational portal (EN) based on MEFANET, which is made by Masaryk University.

The university also uses Moodle. CU has its own Computer Centre (CUCC).
