University of the Western Cape - OEC
The University of the Western Cape (UWC) is a South African university, alert to its African and international context, and committed to responding in critical and creative ways to the needs of a society in transition. Drawing on its proud experience in the liberation struggle, the university is aware of a distinctive academic role in helping build an equitable and dynamic society. UWC considers free and open educational resources the buildling blocks of a higher education environment in the global knowledge society and is the first African university to adopt a free/open content and courseware strategy. UWC is a key member of the African university network AVOIR, which develops free/open source software solutions, including tools to support open courseware based learning.
