The Technical University of Denmark (DTU) is a university in Denmark


Its was founded to make use of scientific progress in the service of society by applying technology. It is the vision of DTU that DTU is recognized internationally as a leading university in the areas of technology and the natural sciences and is known for its business-oriented approach, its focus on sustainability and its appealing study environment. The abbreviation DTU is typically used as a short reference to the University. Its main office is in Kongens Lyngby (Kgs. Lyngby / Lyngby), Denmark. Other campuses are:

  • DTU Aqua, main office in Charlottenlund, furthermore in Hirtshals, Bornholm, Silkeborg, Kgs. Lyngby and Frederiksberg C.
  • DTU Food, adresses in Søborg, Copenhagen V and Kgs. Lyngby
  • DTU Vet, departments in Copenhagen, Lindholm and Århus
  • DTU Space, adresses in Copenhagen and in Lyngby
  • Risø DTU - National Laboratory for Sustainable Energy, adress in Roskilde


DTU offers blended learning, LMS, part-time studies: We offer a Flexible Master degree which is equivalent to one year of full time studies (60 ECTS points), but which is distributed over four semesters, meaning 2 years and You design your own curriculum in cooperation with a relevant scientific employee at one of the DTU Departments.


In 2006 the DTU had approximately 6,183 students.


This HEI also has a term "Open University" for several courses. It also has a [portalen.dtu.dk Portal] for its students.


Of e-learning the site states: "eLearning is a diffuse subject that we aim at getting structured campus wide by establishing a IT infrastructure for DTU together with the mail IT-department. Our part is the open source system components." The Technical University of Denmark includes “VirtuelGalathea 3 e-learning”: The purpose of VirtuelGalathea3 e-learning is to offer a solid technical-based teaching materials to ensure Danish students web-based online access to the many exciting findings and results from Galathea 3 project for use in the teaching of subjects physics, chemistry, mathematics, biology, nature-geographic history and level-divided for classes in primary school and secondary schools.
