From the Chairman's Welcome at http://www.oac.gov.om/welcome/
- In 2001, His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said established the Accreditation Council (OAC) for higher education by Royal Decree. This was done in recognition that the spectacular growth in higher education that the Sultanate has enjoyed over recent years must also be accompanied with an equal emphasis on quality. The purpose of the OAC is to set the standards for higher education institutions and programs, and to accredit institutions and programs against those standards. Our ultimate goal is for Oman’s graduates to stand as equals in the company of the world’s best educated people.
- The OAC recognises that the most effective means of advancing the quality of higher education is through strong and constructive relationships, especially between the Ministry of Higher Education, the OAC and higher education providers. Together, we are developing and providing not only standards and accreditation services, but also training, networking and information sharing opportunities. This website provides you with access to many our services. It will evolve over time as these services come online.
- The development of a top quality higher education sector is a never-ending mission. We, the Board members and staff of the OAC, are committed to doing our part.
