Korrenspondensgymnasiet i Torsås
Korrespondensgymnasiet in Torsås (KORR) is an upper-secondary school run by the local authority open to pupils from all over Sweden. The school has over 450 pupils who have chosen either a school attendance on site in Torsås or a distance education from their home, in Sweden or abroad. About 80% of the pupils pursue the distance education programme. A few pupils also attend adult secondary education.
The pupils can choose either Social Science program or Natural science program within the specifications of the Swedish national programmes.
With the forest and the Baltic Sea nearby, the municipality of Torsås is situated in the south part of the County of Kalmar, approximately halfway between Kalmar and Karlskrona. It is a comparatively small municipality but has two upper secondary schools, which is unusual for a town of this size.
Not only does KORR attract pupils from all over Sweden but also pupils from abroad take part in distance education. The work of the school is based on a specific government policy document dealing with distance education, making KORR Sweden's largest upper secondary school in that field.
Thanks to modern communication the world is a smaller place: 10-15 % of KORR's distance pupils live or study abroad, from Pajala (Sweden) to Buenos Aires and from Hong-Kong to San Francisco.
