Jan Elen

Jan Elen is professor at the Department of Educational Sciences of the K.U.Leuven. He earned his PhD in 1993 at the same university with a dissertation that analysed the relationship between descriptive and prescriptive instructional design statements. For a period of 10 years he has been responsible for the educational support office of the K.U.Leuven. Part of his responsibilities was the elaboration of an educational concept for the university and the organisation-wide implementation of a learning management system. As a member of the Center for Instructional Psychology and Technology, his research is oriented towards the design and use in educational settings of computer-supported learning environments. This research is done mostly in higher education settings. Support for his research was granted by the Flemish research council and the European Commission. He has published widely both in peer-reviewed international journal and international scientific books. He teaches on educational psychology and educational technology both in bachelor and master years. He is supervising six doctoral students. He is currently the coordinator of the newly founded 'School of Education of the Association K.U.Leuven'.
