Education Otherwise
Education Otherwise is a membership-based organisation that provides support and information for families in the UK whose children are being educated outside school, and for those who wish to uphold the freedom of families to take proper responsibility for the education of their children.
It was first set up in 1977.
An increasing number of parents and children want an alternative to school. Their reasons are many, and they often differ widely in our views, but many parents share the desire to take back direct responsibility for the education of our children rather than to delegate it to schools.
The practice of education "otherwise" is steadily spreading and membership is open to anyone - as well as those practising education "otherwise" Education Otherwise has many members who simply want to support the approach.

Aims

- to encourage learning outside the school system;
- to reaffirm that parents have primary responsibility for their children's education and that they have the right to exercise this responsibility by educating them out of school;
- to establish the primary right of children to have full consideration given to their wishes and feelings about their education;
- to promote knowledge, understanding and acceptance of education otherwise than at school in the world at large.
