Council of Private Higher Education (Guatemala)

The Consejo de la Enseñanza Privada Superior (Council of Private Higher Education, CEPS) in Guatemala:

Responsibilities

CEPS is the body responsible for authorizing the operation of private universities as independent institutions, it is up organizing and developing the private higher education of the Nation.

The current functions of the Council are:

• Ensuring that academic standard is maintained in private universities without compromising their independence.
• To authorize the creation of new universities.
• Agree to implement sanctions as provided by law.

Members

The Council of Private Higher Education is composed as follows:

• Two delegates from the University of San Carlos de Guatemala;
• Two representatives of private universities and
• A delegate elected by the presidents of the "professional colleges" not holding any position in any university.
