Comparative education is the academic discipline that examines education in one country (or group of countries) by using data and insights drawn from the practises and situation in another country, or countries. Relevant studies are regularly published in scholarly journals such as Comparative Education, International Review of Education, International Journal of Educational Development, Comparative Education Review, and Current Issues in Comparative Education (see below for URLs).

The field of comparative education is supported by many projects associated with UNESCO, OECD, COL and the national education ministries of various nations.

Programmes in comparative education are offered in many universities throughout the world.

Re.ViCa can be regarded as a large project in comparative education in the subdomain of post-secondary e-learning.

Comparative Education engages with challenging theoretical and methodological issues - and also considers the implications of comparative studies for the formation and implementation of policies - not only in education but in social, national and international development. Thus it welcomes contributions from associated disciplines in the fields of government, management, sociology - and indeed technology and communications - as these affect educational research and policy decisions.
Over 40 years Comparative Education's editorial policy and presentation have evolved to match world developments and the changing concerns of those active in education or involved in its finance, management and wider implications. Our readership has evolved too in proportion as comparative studies of education have attracted the attention of statesmen, the commercial/industrial world, and parents and voters.
