Computers in New Zealand Schools was first published in 1989. It is a journal/magazine aimed at practitioners interested in the use of computers and other forms of information and communication technologies in schools. The journal publishes articles from practitioners and researchers on any aspect on the use of ICT in New Zealand schools, including its use in early childhood, primary and secondary sectors. The articles are a mix of peer-reviewed, informational and opinion based articles, and include reports of research, software and book reviews, with an emphasis on practical applications. To develop a learning community, the journal aims at engaging the readers in dialoguing with the authors. As a result, in each issue some authors will moderate a follow-up discussion about his/her article. It is an ideal place for those new to the researching and publishing process, with support provided for those who wish to publish an article in the journal. Anyone has full access to the articles published in the journal, although those wishing to take part in discussions will be asked to register.

Computers in New Zealand Schools is published three times a year, usually in March, July and November, under the management of the University of Otago College of Education Centre for Distance Education and Learning Technologies.

Its editorial board includes leading researchers in the field from throughout New Zealand, and the journal is also supported by the Ministry of Education, while remaining its independence in terms of the articles that are published.
