BALTECH
BALTECH, the University Consortium for Science and Technology, is an association of partner universities, set up with the aim to be the solid base for wider partnership and closer cooperation between universities in the Baltic Sea Region within the area of natural sciences, technology and industrial management.

The mission of BALTECH
The mission of the Consortium is to advance partnership and co-operation in the Baltic Sea region in natural and engineering sciences, technology development and industrial management. In the long term perspective the goal is to create a virtual "Baltic Sea University of Science and Technology" based on a number of universities around the Baltic Sea as a strategic resource for long-term development of education and research in accordance with the needs of the region. The Consortium is governed by a Board consisting of representatives of the Partner Universities and a Secretariat appointed by the Board.
Activities of BALTECH
Major activities of BALTECH include:
- Joint Master programmes in Industrial Engineering and Management (started 1999), and
- Environmental Management and Cleaner Production (start 2002).
- Annual conferences and additional scientific conferences
- Teacher and student exchange
- Support to scientific and educational projects
- Scholarships to bachelor, master and PhD students (Baltech mobility scholarship and ÅF grant)
- Exchange of information among administrative and academic staff
- Baltech Student Union
History of BALTECH
BALTECH was initiated in May 1997 by the Rectors of seven universities. In 2004, also the Helsinki University of Technology in Finland became one of the partner universities.
