Assam

Assam is a state in the north-eastern region of India. One of the Seven Sister States, it shares a border with the other six: Arunachal Pradesh to the north and north-east, Nagaland to the east, Manipur to the south-east, Mizoram to the south, Tripura to the south-west and Meghalaya to the west. Assam also borders Bangladesh to the south-east, and Bhutan to the north.

The location of Assam

The 2011 census records a population of over 31.1 million, ranking it the 14th most populous state in India. The state capital is Dispur and largest city is Guwuhati.

Education in Assam

Education is free and compulsory in Assam until the age of 14, with schools being either state or privately run.

Virtual education in Assam

The K. K. Handique State University (an open university) was established in 2006. It is the first state-operated Open University in the entire North-Eastern region. It offers the following courses:
