Cuba in a nutshell

400mp

Cuba, officially the Republic of Cuba (Spanish: Cuba, or República de Cuba) is an island country in the Caribbean. It consists of the island of Cuba, the Isla de la Juventud, and several archipelagos.

Havana is the largest city in Cuba and the country's capital. Santiago de Cuba is the second largest city.

Cuba is home to over 11 million people and is the most populous insular nation in the Caribbean. Its people, culture, and customs draw from diverse sources, including the aboriginal Taíno and Ciboney peoples; the period of Spanish colonialism; the introduction of African slaves; and its proximity to the United States.

Cuba education policy

Miguel Díaz-Canel, Minister of Higher Education Ministry of Higher Education(Spanish)

It is created in July 1976 with the aim of implementing education policy at this level and direct it methodically, beginning a major restructuration of university education in the country.

By Resolution No. 150/99 of the Minister of Higher Education was created University System Accreditation Program (SUPRA). Its main objective was stated as follows: "contribute to improving the quality of higher education in Cuba through certification to national and international programs and institutions that meet quality requirements.

For the development and implementation of the above was created the National Accreditation Board for Cuba known by the acronym JAN. JAN's mission is to help improve the quality of Cuban higher education through the development and implementation of the University System Accreditation Program. Its objectives are to promote, organize, implement and monitor policy for Higher Education Accreditation in the country through subsidiary bodies as directed.

The National Accreditation Board grants accreditation for different categories in place for the various programs and is chaired by the Minister of Higher Education of the Republic of Cuba. (Spanish)

UVS Cubana

The Universidad Virtual de Salud Cuba (UVS Cubana) appears to be an online university - or perhaps just an open course repository - operating out of Cuba. Its focus is on healthcare. Little else is easily determined in English.

Its web site is at http://uvirtual.sld.cu.
