The Scottish Funding Council (SFC) distributes more than £1.6 billion to Scotland’s colleges and universities for teaching and learning, research and other activities in support of Scottish government priorities. Its full name is the Scottish Further and Higher Education Funding Council but this is little used.

There are 43 colleges and 19 higher education institutions funded by SFC.

The SFC is a Non-Departmental Public Body of the Scottish Government within the United Kingdom and was established formally on 3 October 2005 under the terms of the Further and Higher Education (Scotland) Act 2005. The Council replaced the former Scottish Further Education Funding Council (SFEFC) and the Scottish Higher Education Funding Council (SHEFC) and brought together funding and support for Scotland’s colleges and universities under one body.
