Lund University was founded in 1666. Today it is an international centre for research and education that has approximately 39,000 students. Lund University is respected as one of the best universities in Sweden. It has an excellent academic reputation with a large number of visiting professors and international students.

Lund University is in the city of Lund, which is in Southern Sweden. This part of Sweden is close to Denmark and northern Germany. Lund is close to the modern city of Malmö and within very easy reach of the rest of Europe. The region is internationally recognised for research and commericial activities with many world-leading companies located in it.

Lund University offers the following courses in English:

  • 300 Single subject courses
  • 50 Master's Programmes
  • PhD studies and postgraduate research

Including the education given in Swedish, Lund University has:

  • 137 Undergraduate and graduate degree programmes
  • 1600 single subject courses

Lund is a medieval city with the university at its heart. A thousand years of history and academic excellence have created a dynamic and entrepreneurial environment. The city has striking architecture and, in a city of 100,000 people where approximately 39,000 of them are students, the atmosphere is vibrant and stimulating.

e-Learning

The e-learning offerings at Lund University have gone through several stages. There is a case study report that describes this. See The process at Lund University, Sweden to make eLearning an integrated part of the educational system. This was done for the ALPINE project.

Lund also developed the LUVIT LMS.

Follow-up

Lund is a prestigious university and not too large to be irrelevant to many European universities. It looks like a good subject for a case study.
