The University of Pretoria (UP)) is the largest residential university in South Africa, and also the country's leading research university (in terms of research output per annum since 1997). UP is one of the largest universities in the country. In 2008, student enrolment totalled 57,409 -- of whom 18,475 were distance learners.
The University teaches in English and Afrikaans. Sepedi is also used for communication.
