The University of South Wales was formed on 11 April 2013 by the merger of the University of Glamorgan and the University of Wales Newport
It has five campuses and 30,000 students - operating across Cardiff, Pontypridd and Newport – as well as maintaining a presence in Merthyr Tydfil.

History and further background
The University of South Wales was formed in 2013 by the merger of the University of Glamorgan and the University of Wales, Newport. Some of their many previous incarnations were the The South Wales and Monmouthshire School of Mines and the Caerleon College of Education.
It has two subsidiaries in The College Merthyr Tydfil and the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama - and also runs the UHOVI project
