The University College West Flanders (De Hogeschool West-Vlaanderen, Howest) supports e-learning through its LMS Dokeos.


In 1995 Howest,University College West Flanders became a single autonomous Higher Education Institution because of a merger of six prominent institutions of higher education in Flanders.


HOWEST’s primary goal is to initiate all students in the international dimension of their future profession. Its mission statement is built on the key words high quality and practically oriented education, permanent lifelong learning, student oriented, learning organisation, and The University College West Flanders actively stands for pluralism, democracy and innovation, where values such as accessibility, tolerance, and respect for other opinions, co-operation, solidarity and creativity are central.


HOWEST´s mission statement acknowledges the added value of the international dimension in its educational, societal and research tasks.


This University College also published its Erasmus Policy Statement (EPS) 2007-2013.


The institution’s main office is in Kortrijk, Belgium. Other campuses are located in Bruges and Ostend.


Today more than 4500 full-time students are enrolled at Howest. It also has a Senior Academy with courses and seminars.
