Peter Bates is senior partner of a small consultancy company pjb Associates where for more than 14 years he has been focussed on innovative approaches to learning through using new technologies, and developments related to the networked economy. This involves analysing, monitoring and evaluating devel-opments across Europe and other parts of the world concerning managerial and tech-nological issues related to current and future developments in networked learning. In 2003 he managed, under a contract from UKeU, the setting up of the e-Learning Re-search Centre.
Other recent work has involved a global study into developments relat-ing to the use of interactive and broadband digital TV for increasing learning opportunities in the home, supported by the European Commission - see http://www.pjb.co.uk/t-learning.htm. In addition, he has been editor of a newsletter for MOBIlearn, a worldwide European-led R&D project exploring mobile technolo-gies in learning - see http://www.pjb.co.uk/m-learning.htm.
Peter has an MSc in Training taken through distance learning at the University of Leicester, and during 2004–05 took a second Master’s in Management in the Net-worked Economy (MiNE) run jointly by the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore at Piacenza, Italy, and the School of Information Management and Systems (SIMS) of the University of California at Berkeley, USA.
