The ''University of Pretoria'' (UP)) is the largest residential university in South Africa, and also the country's leading research university (in terms of research output per annum since 1997). UP is one of the largest universities in the country. In 2008, student enrolment totalled 57,409 -- of whom 18,475 were distance learners.

It is presented in collaboration with the Department of Animal Health, Institute of Tropical Medicine, Antwerp, Belgium, and the Department of Infectious Diseases and Immunology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Utrecht University, the Netherlands.
