The Open University of Israel (OUI) offers flexible learning at the certificate, undergraduate and postgraduate levels, across a wide range of topics. Founded by the government of Israel, the university opened its door in 1976. In the 2006-2007 academic year, almost 40,000 students were enrolled in undergraduate courses, and 3,000 in postgraduate courses. More than 40 undergraduate programmes were available.
Courses may utilize printed texts, web-based materials, video and other modes of delivery, e.g. the 'Ofek' system.
