Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) support online learning primarily through its HKCyberU or CyberU programme, detailed below.

PolyU was formerly known as the Hong Kong Polytechnic. The Institution assumed full university status in 1994.

PolyU is located in Hung Hom, Kowloon, Hong Kong. There has been extensive development and rapid expansion over the last 10 years. The University is the largest University Grants Committee (UGC)-funded tertiary institution in terms of number of students. A range of courses which seek to meet industrial, commercial and community needs is offered. PolyU also provides the public and private sectors with a wide range of consultancy, professional training and applied research services. Through these activities, the University maintains a strong partnership with the business and industrial sectors.

It is a prime aim of the University to equip students not only with professional competency but also the ability of independent thinking, good communication skills and a global outlook. The University implements the credit-based system, which allows flexibility to students in choice of subjects and pace of studies.

More than 250,000 young men and women have graduated from PolyU and its predecessors (the Hong Kong Polytechnic, the Hong Kong Technical College and the Government Trade School).

College of Professional and Continuing Education

Established in October 2002, the College of Professional and Continuing Education (CPCE) is dedicated to knowledge dissemination through the provision of self-financed professional and continuing education programmes. CPCE comprises the School of Professional Education and Executive Development (SPEED), the Hong Kong Community College (HKCC) and the Hong Kong CyberU (HKCyberU).

While CPCE will operate as an autonomous entity, it has a continuing link with the University Senate in respect of the processing of programme proposals leading to SPEED and HKCC academic awards, as well as the overall quality assurance framework. It has its own Council and Academic Board to oversee the management and academic matters of its member units.
