The "Developing tools for lifelong learning in Transcaucasus regio: e-Learning" (ARMAZEG) project was selected in 2013, and funded from 1 December 2013 until 30 November 2016 by the European Commission, under the TEMPUS programme - Joint Projects.

The ARMAZEG web site is at http://www.armazeg.com/

Summary

The Tempus project ARMAZEG aims to stimulate educational reform in Armenian and Georgian universities in order to answer the challenges posed by globalization. The main goal is to further implement e-learning with a focus on developing lifelong learning methodologies. The project will be realized in consecutive steps:

  1. An assessment of the current situation
  2. The development of a vision and implementation strategy;
  3. The establishment of e-learning centres in the participating Armenian and Georgian institutions;
  4. Professionalisation of teaching staff in the field of e-learning;
  5. Set-up of concrete pilot projects.

For the realization of this step-by-step plan the Armenian and Georgian institutions can count on the support and expertise of three European Partners (KU Leuven, University of Granada and University of Florence.)

Outcomes

Outcomes of the project will include

- A shared vision on e-learning and lifelong learning

- E-learning centers in 7 universities of Armenia and Georgia, with qualified staff

- Online courses in different disciplines

- Teacher training and a long term strategy for capacity building of the academic staff

- Training material on the implementation of e-learning for academic staff

- Local workshops in Armenia and Georgia

- Quality assurance framework for e-courses

Two reports are currently available:

- The State-of-the Art Report on the Armenian and Georgian e-Learning describes the current situation of development and use of e-learning and lifelong learning tools in Armenia and Georgia. It includes the monitoring analysis of lifelong learning and e-learning on a national level in Armenia and Georgia, as well as an analysis of the situation on the Partners’ institutional level.

- The ARMAZEG Project Vision, Strategy and Goals Document highlights a future when higher education institutions in Armenia and Georgia will use technology to enhance education for students and lifelong learners. More specifically e-learning will serve as an important tool: (1) to ensure a flexible organization of and easy access to learning; (2) to improve the learning process by supporting activating teaching methods; (3) to support research-based education; (4) to support the internationalization of higher education; and (5) to facilitate the process of lifelong learning in Armenia and Georgia. The document points out the consecutive strategic and operational goals for the realization of theis project vision.
