Sydney Distance Education High School

Sydney Distance Education High School (SDEHS) is a virtual school located in Sydney, Australia.

It is the largest school provider of flexible learning programs in New South Wales. Close to the central business district of Sydney, the school works on the land of the Traditional Custodians, the Cadigal People of Eora Country.

Students who meet specific enrolment guidelines attend SDEHS because they are not able to be at another school on a fulltime basis. Sydney Distance Education High School provides courses to fulltime and part time students, including students with medical conditions and those with significant support needs.

SDEHS provides flexible learning for individualised education through formats such as paper, CDs, DVDs, video and web 2.0 technologies including blogs, forums and wikis. Education takes place also over the telephone, by email and online through Moodle (see http://www.sydneyh-d.schools.nsw.edu.au/moodle/), and students are also engaged through videoconferencing, webconferencing, student online forums, study days, open days, excursions, peer support activities and teacher visits to schools and homes.

In 2011, 1478 students enrolled (fulltime equivalent student numbers are 820 by September 2011). SDEHS employs 200 fulltime and part time staff.
