The University of Amsterdam (Universiteit van Amsterdam, UvA) supports e-learning. The Athenaeum Illustre (1632) is considered the predecessor from the Universiteit van Amsterdam. Today UvA belongs to the League of European Research Universities and has established international reputation with respect to its research in the area of technology-enhanced learning.


The institution’s main office is in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Several study centre and universities' buildings are spread in the city of Amsterdam.


At the UvA, education and research are conducted in the seven faculties: the Humanities, the Social and Behavioural Sciences, Economics and Business, Law, the Natural Sciences, Medicine and Dentistry.

The University of Amsterdam enrols more than 28,000 students and employs almost 5,000 employees.

It support its students via various means such as the online time and examination schedules, Digital Library, Student portal MijnUvA, LMS Blackboard, Studieweb and SMS.


"MijnUvA" is the student portal, by which students immediately access Blackboard, Student mail and Study web. It is accessible here. Study web or Studieweb is the virtual student administration area, where students can register for new courses, create groups or view their exam results, or they can opt for the sms notification for their exam results.


Students who have questions about UvA or the library, can contact the virtual UBAcoach via chat services such as MSN, Facebook, Yahoo! Messenger, Google Talk and the UBA chat.
