Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (National Autonomous University of Mexico, UNAM) is a public university based primarily in Mexico City. It was founded in 1910. In 2008, it had roughly 305,969 students enrolled (primarily pursuing undergraduate degrees).

Distance learning at UNAM is coordinated by the Coordinadora de Universidad Abierta y Educación a Distancia (CUAED). Its mission is to promote equity and quality in higher education. CUAED's PUEL System (Programa Universidad en Línea, or Online University Program) allows creation and delivery of online courses and materials across the university.

UNAM has campuses all across Mexico, plus four small extension campuses in the US and Canada (in San Antonio, Texas; Chicago, Illinois; Los Angeles, California; and Gatineau, Quebec). The extension campuses focus largely on promoting knowledge of Spanish language and Mexican culture.

The university has a educational Tv, offering a meeting point between students, teachers, and people.This initiative is to disseminate the use of Tv related with distance learning, including material support online, chats and forums. The university also use online library where the students can find books, magazines, databases and thesis. There is a special department that offer courses to succes the studies if the students are going to take distance learning.
