The United Nations University (UNU), a United Nations agency, is a think tank for the United Nations and the member states, established in Tokyo in 1973. Its motto is "Advancing knowledge for human security, peace, and development."

UNU provides educational opportunities and fellowships to researchers at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and operates through a number of research centres around the world. It is funded by voluntary contributions from member states and the return on its investments (at one point valued at US$350 million).
