Svava Bjarnason

Svava Bjarnason was until recently head of policy research at the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) based in London, UK, which she joined in 1998. She has a joint appointment in that she also serves as the director of the Observatory on Borderless Higher Education, an international strategic-information service which is an initiative of the ACU and Universities UK.

Svava was an independent research consultant in UK higher education from 1994 until 1998. Projects on which she has contributed include: the Graduate Standards Pro-gramme; the analysis of the public submissions for the National Inquiry on Higher Education (the Dearing Inquiry); an evaluation of the use of ICT in higher and further education in the UK; and the “Business of Borderless Education” project (UK).

She is now working at the World Bank.
