Edith Cowan University (ECU) is Western Australia's second largest university, with roughly 23,000 students (of which 3,000 are international students from more than 80 countries). ECU's main campus is in Perth, Australia, with campuses in Joondalup, Mount Lawley and Bunbury. Known for its postgraduate distance-learning ('external') options, a migration from print-based materials was reported complete in 2007 (at which time roughly 1200 distinct Blackboard course units were available online). Of roughly 20,000 enrolled students that year, 2,500 were considered 'external' students. Experiments with video capture and streaming of live 'FlexiLectures' are ongoing.

ECU is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities.
