Annemie Boonen holds an MA in Romance languages and a MA in Italian studies (K.U.Leuven). After a stay as researcher at the University of Urbino (Italy), she started her professional career in the field of television, audio-visual/new media and artistic productions (a.o. Media Launch, Flemish national radio and television - Antwerp Cultural Capital Europe 1993, Kaaitheater Brussels). She combined (to date) her activities in the context of international (artistic) media productions with activities in the field of Literature, a.o. as Managing Editor of the international theatre review ‘Theaterschrift’, journalist/art critic and translator of novels and theatre plays. In 1995 she joined the EuroPACE network and applied her experience with audio-visual and new media to the field of education and training. As Project Manager and Researcher for EuroPACE she was involved in research, development and implementation activities, mainly in the framework of EU projects on Lifelong Learning and the introduction of ICT/e-learning in Higher Education. As Communication Manager and later as Research and Development Manager for EuroPACE, she was responsible for the development of the international networking and contributed to the strategic developments and innovation of the EuroPACE organisation. In 2000 she started her own company (Merzouga Media and Communications) for audiovisual productions and consultancy in eLearning. She is currently working as Networked eLearning Expert for different organisations, (including EuroPACE), and is actively involved in a number of international initiatives in the field of networked learning a.o. as Programme Director for the ELIG, European Learning Industry Group. Her main fields of interest are: networked e-learning, new media & learning technologies, virtual mobility for learning, cultural aspects of international cooperation, language management in European learning initiatives, cooperation between HEIs and industry and educational/(e-)learning policy.


She is also a member of the Re.ViCa International Advisory Committee (IAC)
