The University of Kentucky (UK) is a public land-grant university, located in Lexington, Kentucky in the US. Founded in 1865 by John Bowman as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Kentucky, the university has 27,209 students, and is the highest ranked research university in the state of Kentucky.

The university offers 93 undergraduate programmes, 99 master's programmes, 66 doctoral programmes, and four professional programmes.

Online, distance courses are offered through the university's Distance Learning Programs (DLP) division. Students must be registered with UK to take online courses. Typically courses are entirely online and are delivered completely asynchronously. Students may use Blackboard as well as two-way audio/videoconferencing, to participate in classroom courses with a remote instructor.
