The Aalborg University (Aalborg Universitet, AAU) offers blended learning and distance studies. It was opened in 1974.

The university's main office is in Aalborg, Denmark. Other departments are located in Esbjerg and Copenhagen.

AAU offers approximately 60 different study programmes and has close to 14,000 students and employs approximately 1200 faculty and 800 administrative and technical staff.

Considered by many to be a forerunner in the area of open learning, this HEI offers several part-time Master's Programmes in English listed under "Continuing Education". The teaching on each semester consists of four to six times seminars of 2-3 days’ duration, distance education, self study and project work in groups.

Aalborg University also established (together with 4 other distinguished universities) the online 2-year part-time master "Master in ICT and Learning (MIL)".

It also offers part-time studies in its Continuing Education division including 2 part-time masters, organised as technology-supported distance learning.
