The Polytechnic University of Timisoara (Universitatea 'Politehnica' din Timişoara) is located in Timişoara, Romania. Founded in 1920, it is one of the largest technical universities in Central/ Eastern Europe. The university has 10 faculties and several independent departments.

In the recent years, through its Regional Centre for Open and Distance Learning, the University has begun to offer technology-based open and distance education in different areas and languages.

The Polytechnic University of Timisoara is the co-ordinator of the ViCaDiS (Virtual Campus for Digital Students) project of the Erasmus Lifelong Learning Programme (134039-LLP-1-2007-1-RO-ERASMUS). In ViCaDiS, a range of ODL actors from EU and CEE countries seek to enhance international eLearning by shifting focus from the institutional learning environment to the personal learning environment (PLE).
