Established in 1995, the University of the Philippines Open University (Unibersidad ng Pilipinas, UPOU) seeks to provide wider access to quality higher education in Philippines. As noted on its web site:
- Through the distance education provided by the UPOU, the University will be able to respond better to the demand for quality higher education especially in areas which do not have a [University of the Philippines] campus.
UPOU is headquartered at Los Baños, Laguna. It seeks to lead in open and distance learning (ODL) in the Asian region.
