University of Maryland University College
The University of Maryland University College (UMUC) is one of the largest public providers of online higher education in the US, targeting working adults and those in the military with a wide choice of low-cost, flexible online programmes. Its offices in Asia and Europe offer courses to individuals in the United States military communities, i.e. Americans stationed overseas.
Headquartered in Adelphi, Maryland, US, UMUC has classroom locations in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, Europe, and Asia. UMUC considers itself to be "globally focused", serving more than 90,000 students worldwide. More than 32,000 stateside students attended UMUC in fall 2007, an increase of 74% since 1997; in 2007, UMUC’s overseas divisions offered on-site classes in 22 countries, enrolling 38,288 students (presumable all in the US military). UMUC offers certificate, undergraduate and graduate programs in a variety of fields.
Online courses are delivered via WebTycho, a Web-based learning platform developed by UMUC.
