A former Headteacher of an urban comprehensive and Principal of three colleges, Giles has consulted for KPMG as well as independently. His main areas of expertise are management and governance, strategy development, curriculum design and financial planning. Giles also has a strong interest in lifelong learning and the standing of Modern Foreign Languages.

Whilst at Sero, Giles has led a number of projects for BECTA, including the annual Harnessing Technology FE Survey that informed national statistics, an international benchmarking survey of over 200 institutions and a review of e-maturity in adult and community learning settings.

Giles was from 2010-13 Deputy Project Manager for VISCED, an EU funded global study of virtual schools, colleges and online learning and is now Deputy Project Manager for POERUP, an EU Lifelong Learning Programme looking at policy and uptake of Open Educational Resources.
