Extremadura (Extremaduran: Estremaura) is an autonomous community of Spain.

Its component provinces are Cáceres and Badajoz.

It is bordered by Portugal to the west. To the north it borders Castile-León; to the south, it borders Andalusia; and to the east, it borders Castile-La Mancha.

It is an important area for wildlife, particularly with the major reserve at Monfragüe, which was designated a National Park in 2007, and the project of the International Tagus River Natural Park (Parque Natural Río Tajo Internacional).

Extremadura is known all around the world because most of the conquerors of the New World after the Discovery of America by Christopher Columbus, were born there.

Its capital city is Mérida.

The population is around 1.1 million.
