The University of Phoenix (UPX) is a for-profit entity that markets higher education degrees to working adults. With 310,000 students, it describes itself as the largest private university in North America.

UPX was founded in 1976 in Phoenix, Arizona, USA, and is owned by Apollo Group, Inc. Today it offers over 100 degree courses at more than 250 physical campuses and learning centres across the US and Canada. Programmes are at the associate's, bachelor's, master's and doctoral levels. Of roughly 23,000 faculty members, all undergraduate- and graduate-level faculty are professionally employed in their respective fields. Students may attend face-to-face evening classes, study online, or blend the two modes as preferred. Online course are delivered largely via asynchronous bulletin boards.
