The Department of Education of the Philippines (DepEd) in Philippines is the executive department of the Philippine government responsible for the management and governing of the Philippine system of basic education.

It is the chief formulator of Philippine educational policy and is responsible for the Philippine primary and secondary school system.

The Department of Education is also known by its old name, the Department of Education, Culture and Sports. The Governance of Basic Education Act of 2001 removed the administration of cultural activities from the Department of Education. It also abolished the Bureau of Physical Education and School Sports. The law is also known as An Act Instituting A Framework of Governance for Basic Education, Establishing Authority and Accountability, Renaming the Department of Education, Culture, and Sports as the Department of Education, and for Other Purposes.
