Alaska's Learning Network

Alaska's Learning Network (AKLN) is meant to fulfill a need in Alaska to provide highly qualified instructors and rigorous courses not currently available in rural Alaska, US. High school courses in English, Maths, History and Social Studies, Alaska Studies, and World Languages are offered as of 2011.

All AKLN courses are offered at a cost of $150/course per semester, per student, and are weighted to allow for larger number of tuition reductions to smaller, rural Alaskan high schools.

AKLN online courses are open to all Alaska districts. The Fall 2011 and Spring 2012 courses offered through AKLN are from Wrangell School District (who uses K12 Inc Learning Online) and Anchorage School District (who created their own course on Moodle). It is the hope of AKLN to eventually offer quality courses from all Alaskan school districts who have the capacity to open up seats to other students statewide.

More Details

AKLN is funded through and Alaska Department of Education and Early Development competitive grant using American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds. A one-year start up grant was awarded to Chatham School District to begin a coalition of school districts to serve, with highly qualified teachers, the curricular needs of Alaskan students.
