Delta Cyber School
The Delta Cyber School (DCS) is a free, online public school located in the US state of Alaska. It is open to all Alaskan students ages 5-19. Tuition-based courses are also available for other public school students. Delta Cyber School is a member of the Delta/Greely School District. Students may study either part-time or full-time; in the former case they are enrolled at a traditional school. There were 387 students enrolled in 2007.
All DCS coursework is delivered online. It offers elementary, middle school and high school programmes; parents are asked to serve as mentors to encourage their students to work but are not required to do any teaching or grading.
Learning is delivered through the Blackboard learning system. Most of the curriculum is written by DCS teachers based on their prior experiences with teaching the courses. A few courses are based on textbooks (middle school Language Arts, high school Chemistry) and the foreign language courses use an online textbook.
