Francophone Africa

There is some debate about the appropriate scope of Francophone Africa. The suggested definition, posed for discussion, is the collection of those countries in Africa where French is a widely-spoken official language, usually because the countries are former colonies of France, and where the educational infrastructure is or until recently was organised along "French" lines.
This leads to the following list:
- Benin
- Burkina Faso
- Burundi
- Cameroon
- Central African Republic
- Chad
- Comoros
- Côte d'Ivoire
- Djibouti
- Equatorial Guinea
- Gabon
- Guinea
- Madagascar
- Mali
- Niger
- Republic of the Congo
- Senegal
- Seychelles
- Togo
Many such lists would include Rwanda - but French and the French approach to organisation is now much less relevant to Rwanda in the light of its recent history.
