Drexel University Online (Drexel Online), a wholly-owned, for-profit subsidiary of Drexel University, provides Internet-based education programmes for working professionals and corporations in the US and abroad. Students pursue the same certificates, bachelor’s and master’s degrees as those taught on the Drexel University campuses.

Drexel’s main campuses are in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, US. In January 2009, it will open a Center for Graduate Studies in Sacramento, California. Drexel has offered online programmes since 1996. Drexel Online currently offers over 60 courses, typically taught by tenured faculty members (90% of whom have PhDs). Students may take an unlimited number online of courses concurrently, and complete courses at their own pace. Terms are 10 weeks in length.

The Drexel Online Web site is at http://www.drexel.com/

More details

In 2006-2007, Drexel supported 12,900 undergraduates and 7,000 postgraduate and professional students. Of these, 5% of undergraduates and 19% of postgraduates were international students.

Prices for certain online programmes are lower than those of their on-campus equivalents (with no application fees).

Founded in 1891, Drexel was an early adopter of technology in support of education. It was the first major US university to require all students to have their own computers (1983-1984). It offered a fully wireless campus as early as 2000.

Drexel’s MBA degree programme has been ranked among the best 25 Online MBA programmes by the US News & World Report.

Drexel has partners in 12 countries that offer students hands-on work placements as part of their undergraduate studies (through the 'co-operative education programme').
